Backwards is the brand-new label born by an innate passion for unusual music and by an unrestrained desire to produce representative works from the most disparate, and apparently distant, music genres: from insane industrial to introspective drone-ambient, from feverish post-punk to devastating psychedelia, not excluding the warm intimacy of songwriting and a certain kind of contemporary experimental folk music.
Passion for Music goes hand in hand with that, equally connaturate, for the materiality of "phonographic supports".
That's why Backwards will be devoted to publications of vinyl-only records, with limited editions that will include micro-editions in coloured vinyl, enriched with bonus stuff, such as additional 7", signed silk-screened (or meticulously hand-made) inserts, a lot of gadgets, and more...
Bluntly, the complete eclecticism is Backwards' vocation, both in its issues and their presentation, so as to be the opposite to the creative aridity of issues in unlimited series, peculiar in the collapsing (or already collapsed?) world of "mainstream".
Backwards' next target is to be genetically different than twin sister-label "RICERCA SONORA", this one conceived to be more specialized in its releases, which will include "sound poetry", "concrète musique", "fluxus art" records, experimentation and avant-garde music in general. The meeting points between these two "creatures" will consist of the main aspects of editorial policies: unique choice for vinyl records and limited editions.
BACKWARDS WILL KICK YOUR EARS!

Backwards is proud to present the new album by Clara Engel, the Canadian musician with the warm and dreamy voice, also known for the intimate and melancholy character of her compositions, heartfelt and passionate. "Tender" is a sort of manifesto of Clara's way to conceive music: her songwriting is intense and fraught with emotions of the broadest range; her melting lyrics bring us back to the "poetry in music" by artists as Jacques Brel or contemporary balladeer Antony Hegarty. Listening to the eight tracks of "Tender", you have the impression that the only voice of Clara is enough to declaim her inner world: the arrangements, deliberately meager and never baroque, they just represent an added value, a "white outfit" equally suggestive of her compositional, artistic and vocal skills. Moving from visionary atmospheres à la David Lynch to raging blues of the Mississipi Delta, till gloomy sceneries that seem to come from Nick Cave's pen, Clara can combine Chrissie Hynde, Howlin' Wolf and Diamanda Galas into a single artistic creature.
Backwards released this record in a limited edition of 300 copies with insert. First 50 copies are in coloured vinyl. The remaining 250 copies are in standard black wax.
